Taj Mahotsav Festival 2013

Are you planning a trip to the Taj Mahal in February this year? Make sure to be around for the Taj Mahotsav to be held from 18th February, 2013 to 27th February, 2013

The Taj Mahal, referred as the ‘epitome of love’ and romance, leaves visitors mesmerized and perpetually enthralled. Its architecture combines elements from Persian, Turkish and Indian architectural styles, is the finest example of Mughal architecture. At the break of dawn, when the first rays of the sun hits the dome of this epic monument, it radiates like a bright golden heavenly abode. Then at dusk, on a moonlit night, it shines like a perfectly carved diamond, leaving the visitors awestruck by its shear grandeur. The beauty of this visual spectacle touches you deep inside when one hears the story behind the magnificent structure. The love story the great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, in and  his beloved third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who is also known as Arjumand Bano Begum.

Coming back to the Taj Mahotsav celebrations, it’s a 10 days annual festival is organized at Shilpgram, in Agra. This mega event brings back the memories of the old Mughal period that prevailed during the 18th and the 19th centuries in the state of Uttar Pradesh. At the festival, tourist can experience the rich culture, crafts, arts, cuisine, dance and music of Uttar Pradesh. The festival is a good platform for the renowned artisans to display their awesome works of art.

Artisans from different parts of India showcase their exquisite works of art. Among them are the wood/stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, paper mash work from South India and Kashmir. Bamboo/cane work from North East India. Handmade carpets from Bhadohi. Wood carving from Sharanpur and brass wares from Moradabad. Pottery from Khurja, Chikan work from Lucknow and silk & zari work from Banaras. The Kantha stitch saris from West Bengal. Shawls & carpets from Kashmir/Gujarat  and many more.



The festival starts with a grand road procession with beautifully ornamented camels and elephants, folk artists, drummers and master craftsmen. Drum beaters, trumpet players, folk dancers, skilled crafts men and artisans also join the procession to make it a grander affair.

    I am waiting for Feb 18th. Actually I have been there (Agra) for 3 months when I was in my Graduation for Internship. But Missed to see Taj :(
